About Dr. Abraham-Cook
Clinical Background
Dr. Abraham-Cook started her professional career in the field of international human rights. After working with survivors of human rights violations in an advocacy capacity, she pursued graduate training in psychology with the goal of aiding victims of trauma and social injustice. Since this time, Dr. Abraham-Cook has conducted several hundred psychological evaluations, and has worked with individuals and families from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds on a range of immigration-related matters. Dr. Abraham-Cook also has expertise in the assessment and treatment of psychological trauma, and is trained in several evidence-based treatments, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). ​

Dr. Abraham-Cook's past experiences include employment as a clinical psychologist at the Department of Mental Health's (DMH) Metro Boston Inpatient Units and a faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Tufts School of Medicine. Dr. Abraham-Cook completed her postdoctoral training at Youth Opportunities Upheld, with an emphasis on psychological assessment and multicultural issues in psychology. Dr. Abraham-Cook also completed an APA (American Psychological Association)-accredited predoctoral internship at the Department of Veterans Affairs - New Jersey Health Care System, and a pre-doctoral fellowship in clinical and forensic psychology at the New York City Department of Correction.

Research
Dr. Abraham-Cook's dissertation research explored compassion fatigue, burnout, and resiliency among teachers working in high-poverty urban public schools. She has conducted research and co-authored publications on psychological trauma, compassion fatigue, stress, and cognitive functioning. In addition, Dr. Abraham-Cook has given presentations at national conferences on international and multicultural issues in psychology, trauma, and assessment.
